Free DS Downloads for Kids: Finding the Best Site

Nintendo DS DownloadsDo your kids keep begging you for all the latest games for their Nintendo DS system? Well, there’s a way to make them happy without going to your local video game store and emptying your wallet each and every week. Joining a game download membership site is a great way to save money on games for your DS, DS Lite, or DSi, but you need to do some research in order to choose the best one.

Here are a few tips to help you make a good decision when you want to download DS games:

  1. It’s generally true… you get what you pay for.
That might sound like a strange comment to make when we’re talking about freee download sites, so let me explain. It is possible to find web sites where you can download games for your Nintendo DS completely free, without even paying a fee to join. The problem with these sites is that because no one is paying to maintain them, there are absolutely no safeguards to protect you from viruses, spyware, adware, or other harmful programs. When you download games from sites that are totally free (sometimes known as warez or torrent sites), you can never be sure if the next game you download will completely destroy your computer system. On the other hand, sites that charge a membership fee use a portion of that money to install protective software, firewalls, and other defenses so that they can guarantee you a secure download experience.
  2. Quality of the Downloads Library
Many sites that offer video game downloads only provide limited game demo versions or outdated games. It is almost impossible to find newly released games or even large numbers of current games on these sites. You want to make sure you choose a download site that offers full game releases and that is updated frequently with all the latest games.
  3. Access to Customer Service and Technical Support
Service and support after the sale is another area that greatly distinguishes one game download site from another. At a minimum, select a site that offers round-the-clock e-mail support. If you can find customer testimonials for the site you are interested in, many of them will mention whether they have had a good experience with technical support.
  4. Refund Policy and Satisfaction Guarantee
A money-back refund policy is an essential element of a good game download site. That way, if you are not happy with the selection of games, customer support, or any other aspect of your membership, you can have your money returned, no questions asked. Good game download sites offer 100% satisfaction guarantees for at least 10 days, and some extend up to 60 days.

Keeping all those qualities in mind, our favorite membership site to download DS games is the DSi Download Center. They offer a 6-month membership for only $29, or a lifetime membership for just $39. Their download selection is top-notch and we’ve found their service and support to be excellent as well.

More Great Games You’ve Never Played

Donkey Kong: Jungle BeatIn our last post, we told you about some great video games from the past that, for whatever reason, never really got the attention they deserved. Today, we will finish up our commentary with four more games that are just begging for you to hunt them down on eBay and add them to your collection!

  1. Blast Corps (N64)
It appears that Goldeneye and Banjo Kazooie distracted many N64 players from another video game gem. Blast Corps was an ingenious action/puzzle game that involved a bulldozer. I know, it sounds very boring, but the act of clearing a path for your truck to drive on was enormous fun!
  2. Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaro’s Treasure (Wii)
This game probably went unnoticed by many gamers because its title seems to make it out to be a cartoon network-type of game. However, it’s actually Capcom’s “wink” to old-school video gamers, particularly those who enjoyed the classic Sierra Games adventures of decades past. It is a fun game to play, and it’s full of outstanding puzzles.
  3. Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat (GameCube/Wii)
Nintendo chose to use the GameCube’s bongo peripheral for this game. When I first heard about this game, I laughed at it, but I quickly changed my mind once I played it. Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat is a wild and woolly game. Players were required to bang on the drums and clap their hands to make Donkey Kong run and jump. Although that may sound strange and unappealing, it truly was a blast to play. The graphics were stunning, but this title was largely ignored by the public. It has now been re-released for the Wii, but if you still have your GameCube, you may want to hunt down the original. It’s not the world’s longest game, but there is a lot of entertainment value in replaying it to try to beat your previous “banana count.”
  4. Beyond Good & Evil (GameCube/XBox/PS2)
Beyond Good & Evil was a good, all-around action/adventure game set in a bizarre world of humans, animals, robots, and aliens. I can’t stress enough how this game simply does everything right. Nothing is to difficult to figure out. You don’t get stuck forever hating some boss, and you never seem to curse at the controls. If the game has any drawback at all, it is simply that it is too short. I strongly encourage you to hunt this game down and play it — it deserves your attention.

The Greatest Games You’ve Never Played

Chibi-RoboNintendo has a long history of creating quality games with memorable characters that are loved by gamers worldwide. Although millions of players have spent countless hours in the company of  the personalities of Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, and Kirby, there are a few games that just either didn’t get the recognition they deserved or didn’t catch on with the gaming public.

Following we will outline a few of these titles. While many of these games were critically acclaimed, they just failed for one reason or another to attract the attention they merited. If you’re looking for a way to pass some time, track down a few of these games on eBay or your favorite used game store… you won’t regret it!

  1. Chibi-Robo! (for GameCube/DS)
Chibi-Robo! can be classified as the GameCube’s last classic game, as it was released quite late in the life of that console. Although it involved the fairly strange idea of earning Happy Points while controlling a robot that cleans various rooms in a house, the game offered a certain charm, and a relaxing experience. If you missed it on the GameCube never fear; it’s also been released on the DS with several updates to the gameplay.
  2. Okami (PS2/Wii)
Okami is perhaps one of the biggest video game injustices to date. Originally released for the PS2 (where sales were disappointing, to say the least), Okami got a second chance on the Wii, where the game’s paintbrush controls are ideally suited to the wiimote. Frankly, the game is better than ever on the Wii, and in my opinion it is one of the freshest games in recent history.
  3. Chrono Trigger (SNES/Playstation/DS)
Many of you are probably too young to remember this game’s incarnation on the Super NES. Widely thought of as the best 2D RPG ever, Chrono Trigger simply must be played if you enjoy this genre of game. It has an outstanding storyline, a fantastic battle system and an amazing soundtrack.
  4. Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem (GameCube)
Eternal Darkness was a riveting psychological horro game from Ubisoft. Although many other games are more frightening and have better effects, no other game manages to recreate the unsettling experience of Eternal Darkness. I found the entire game to be extremely enjoyable, from the sanity meter to the hallucinogenic graphic effects to the game controller pretending to be disconnected. Perhaps if we are lucky, there is a sequel in the works?

Come back for our next post, where we will outline a few more unsung heros of the video game world!

Nintendo Wii: The Hottest Game System Around

WiiThe conclusive leader in the video gaming industry, Nintendo has definiately hit another one out of the park with their Wii game console. This system is a cutting-edge video game system that puts the gamer right in the center of the action. Unlike most video game systems that have controllers with buttons and levers that control the movements of the characters within the game, the Nintendo Wii is able to sense the movements of the player and respond accordingly. In other words, to play a game of tennis on the Wii, the player will hold the controller in their hand and swing, just as if they were swinging a tennis racquet. Likewise, in Wii bowling, the player holds the controller as if it’ were a bowling ball (without releasing it, of course! :) ).

Introduced to the U.S. market in November 2006. the Nintendo Wii was an immediate success. The frenzy for the Wii were so great that stores couldn’t even begin to keep enough in stock to meet the demand. Recent figures show that more than 23 million Nintendo Wii game consoles have been sold in the United States alone, and over 50 million worldwide.

Since the Nintendo Wii is a very active video game system, it appeals to a much different demographic than traditional game systems. Many buyers of the Nintendo Wii are first-time video game console buyers, lured by its unique design.

One innovative addition to the Nintendo Wii is the Wii Fit Board. This unique controller is similar in appearance to a bathroom scale. Players stand on the board and by shifting their weight, walking, or jumping, they are able to control a character on the screen. Using this distinctive feature, the Wii has even been integrated into exercise programs at nursing homes and rehabilitation centers.

Even though the Wii is rather unconventional, it still appeals to hardcore gamers, and offers a broad range of games for just about every preference. Some of the most popular games include: Mario Kart, Wii Fit, Guitar Hero, Star Wars, Rock Band and Wii Ski.

For anyone who wants a unique gaming experience, the Nintendo Wii is a great choice . Not only can it be used to play games, but it comes with built-in wireless networking capability and can be used surf the Internet. This feature can also be used to play games with other players who are remotely located, and to download system upgrades and other available games and components.

We love the Wii and believe that it is the most innovative gaming console to hit the market in recent history. From young children to the senior citizens, it has appeal for just about anyone.

The Nintendo Wii: More than Fun and Games!

Wii RehabPhysical therapy is usually not your first thought when you come across a Nintendo Wii game console. But strange as it may seem, the Wii is one of the latest tools being used in hospitals and rehabilitation centers throughout the U.S.

Yes, the item that you would usually associate with kids or teenagers is also being used to assist in recovery after injuries and to encourage physical activity among senior citizens. Many senior centers have even been sponsoring Wii Bowling events, and they have been received with much enjoyment and enthusiasm.

According to Newsday, hospital rehabilitation units are using the Wii for physical therapy for stroke victims and those who have suffered a wide range of other injuries. According to one source, after therapy that included Wii Tennis, one woman who had experienced a stroke has now regained some function in her hands. The therapist is quoted as saying that having the patient swing the Wii-mote to control the tennis game is also helping the patient maintain her balance for longer time periods.

Cruise ships are even getting into the act, with daily Wii tournaments on the activities agenda for the passengers.

These innovative uses of technology have helped establish Nintendo as more than just a gaming and entertainment corporation. People who have never before been interested in video games are flocking to the stores to buy their own Wii consoles. They are truly finding that it can provide something for all ages and interests.

All About the Nintendo Wii

Nintendo WiiWith a price tag of $250 or less, Nintendo’s Wii gaming console has a lower price tag than the other seventh-generation game consoles. It also boasts a wider market demographic than its competitors, and it comes equipped with the capability to be backward compatible with its predecessor, the GameCube, and it is Wi-Fi ready right out of the box. This allows it to immediately utilize a nearby wireless network connection to play games on and download items from the Internet.

Following are some more of the unique features offered by the Wii:

Unique Controller Design

One striking characteristic of the Nintendo Wii is its remote controller, that can be operated with only one hand. It uses infrared sensors and internal accelerometers that are super-sensitive to the movements of the user and can detect its own position in a three dimensional plane. By utilizing this controller, the game player can guide the gameplay using body movements rather than the mere pressing of buttons or wiggling of a joystick.

Another feature of the controller is force feedback technology, where gamers can feel vibrations in order to better simulate the game being played. Lastly, the Wii controller contains an internal speaker that greatly enhances the experience of the game being played. The Wii also comes equipped with a unit that is referred to as a “nunchuk” that allows for the more traditional touch of a joystick and trigger buttons.

Since it is equipped with Bluetooth, the Wii controller can communicate with the game console cordlessly, although backward compatibility with GameCube controllers is also supported.

Backward Compatibility

The Wii offers a degree of backward compatibility with the Nintendo GameCube games and controllers. This means you can still enjoy playing your favorite GameCube games on your Wii. Since the Wii controller can not be used on GameCube games, the Wii console has four GameCube controller ports built in. If you want to save games, it also has a slot to accomodate a GameCube memory card.

Parental Controls

Parental control capability is another new feature of the Nintendo Wii. Parents can set game parameters to prevent games with undesired contents from being played. Once these settings are in place, the Wii will check the content rating of any game being played. If it doesn’t meet the set restrictions, the console will not load the game unless an override password is provided.

In Conclusion

So, if any of these details have piqued your interest, you can now purchase a Nintendo Wii game system in your local electronics, video, or department stores. It you can also get a great deal on the Nintendo Wii at Amazon.com and other web super-sites. Any way you decide to get it, you can be sure that the Nintendo Wii will be enjoyed by your entire family.

Buying a Super NES? Here’s How to Save Time and Money

Super NESNintendo released the Super NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) 1991 and it was an overnight sensation. Home to classic games such as Final Fantasy, Zelda, and Mario World, almost 50 million consoles were sold. However, if you are a collector of the great classic games and you are trying to add a Super NES to your arsenal, it’s likely that you will have a difficult time of it. That’s because Nintendo stopped manufacturing them in 1999, so you will need to track one down on the secondary (or used) market.

If you are in the market to purchase a Super NES, we have a few pointers to help you in your search:

  1. How much can you expect to pay?
Generally, used Super NES consoles sell for around $35. Usually, this will include controllers and perhaps even a game or two. Prices can very greatly, so check around first to try to find the best deal.  If you are lucky enough to stumble across a brand new, mint-condition, unused Super NES, you can expect to pay as much as $200.
  2. New or Used?
Since it’s been over 10 years since the Super NES was manufactured, the chances of you being able to purchase a brand new unit are very small. And if you do find an unused one, you can expect to pay a premuim price for it. However, the Super NES has a great track record of durability, so buying a used one is a really good alternative.
  3. Retail Stores or the Secondary Market?
You will almost definiately be wasting your time if you are searching for your Super NES in a retail store. They long ago moved on to selling newer systems, and will no longer have any in stock. If you know of any independent video game stores, you may have a chance of finding one there, but even franchises that deal in the used market, such as EBGames and GameStop quit carrying them years ago.
  4. So, where can I find one?
Your best chance of tracking down a Super NES to add to your gaming collection is online. When I perforned a quick search on eBay, the online auction site, I found dozens of systems, both the original and newer design, in working order, with a variety of accessories and games, at very reasonable prices. Many of them even advertised free shipping — a great added incentive. As always, when shopping on eBay or any other online auction site, do your research and pay attention to the seller’s feedback. Once you’ve completed your transaction, it’s very difficult to go back and correct any mistakes or poor choices.
  5. What should be included?
New in the box, the Super NES was packaged with two controllers, an AC adapter, and a cable adaptor. All of these items are required to operate the console, so be sure they are either included in your purchase or that you plan to get them separately. Finally, since the Super NES isn’t much fun if you don’t have any games to play on it, you will want to acquire a variety of these as well. Again, eBay is a great place to find games of all genres. The day I looked, over 1,000 were listed for sale.

If you follow the advice given above, you should be able to acquire your Super NES and a collection of games with ease and cost effectively. So have fun, and enjoy yourself playing on one of the greatest game systems ever!

Nintendo Game Systems: Great Fun and Adventure for Everyone

NintendoThe name “Nintendo” is synonymous worldwide for high-quality, video game entertainment. Nintendo was one of the pioneers in modern video game technology. They have long been the industry leader in video games for all platforms: game consoles, hand-held/portable, arcade, and computers.

Nintendo first appeared on the market with the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and Super Mario Bros. The popularity of the NES and Super Mario contributed a great deal to the ultimate success of the company. Through this duo, Nintendo earned the trust of consumers and proved that they are a company that produces quality game systems and quality games.

After the NES, Nintendo released the Super NES or Super Nintendo, which was also a enormous success. During this time, Nintendo also entered the portable gaming industry when they developed their first ever handheld game system called the GameBoy. The GameBoy was such a huge success that Nintendo continued to develop different gaming consoles both for standard and portable gaming.

In 1996, Nintendo released the Nintendo 64 or N64 which was, of course, also a hit. New 3D technology was one of the key features that made this system such a success. With stunning graphics for its time, the Nintendo 64 was the leader of its generation of gaming consoles.

In 2001, another handheld gaming system, named GameBoy Advance (GBA), was released by Nintendo. The GBA took the world by storm and proved itself to be another success for Nintendo. In comparison to its predecessor, the GameBoy Advance is far more sophisticated in terms of graphics technology and also in game play.

During that same year, Nintendo released its latest incarnation of the gaming console: the GameCube. By this time, Sony and Microsoft had entered the game system market, and offered much competition for Nintendo. So, although the GameCube wasn’t as much of a hit as its predecessors, it found its niche as a good game system option for their kids.

Over the course of time, Nintendo’s competitors developed more advanced handheld game systems, and Nintendo responded with the DS. This portable game system has become one of the most popular handheld systems on the market today. With features like touch screen technology and integrated Wi-Fi capabilities, Nintendo DS is considered to be the new generation in portable gaming technology.

After many years and a lot of competition from the other video game companies, Nintendo finally released it’s latest incarnation of the home video game console. The Nintendo Wii was a huge success right out of the gate. With months of high demand and short supply, along with its innovative games and game controller technique, it’s sure to go down in history as one of the best-selling systems of all time.
