In our last post, we told you about some great video games from the past that, for whatever reason, never really got the attention they deserved. Today, we will finish up our commentary with four more games that are just begging for you to hunt them down on eBay and add them to your collection!

Blast Corps (N64)
It appears that Goldeneye and Banjo Kazooie distracted many N64 players from another video game gem. Blast Corps was an ingenious action/puzzle game that involved a bulldozer. I know, it sounds very boring, but the act of clearing a path for your truck to drive on was enormous fun!

Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaro’s Treasure (Wii)
This game probably went unnoticed by many gamers because its title seems to make it out to be a cartoon network-type of game. However, it’s actually Capcom’s “wink” to old-school video gamers, particularly those who enjoyed the classic Sierra Games adventures of decades past. It is a fun game to play, and it’s full of outstanding puzzles.

Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat (GameCube/Wii)
Nintendo chose to use the GameCube’s bongo peripheral for this game. When I first heard about this game, I laughed at it, but I quickly changed my mind once I played it. Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat is a wild and woolly game. Players were required to bang on the drums and clap their hands to make Donkey Kong run and jump. Although that may sound strange and unappealing, it truly was a blast to play. The graphics were stunning, but this title was largely ignored by the public. It has now been re-released for the Wii, but if you still have your GameCube, you may want to hunt down the original. It’s not the world’s longest game, but there is a lot of entertainment value in replaying it to try to beat your previous “banana count.”

Beyond Good & Evil (GameCube/XBox/PS2)
Beyond Good & Evil was a good, all-around action/adventure game set in a bizarre world of humans, animals, robots, and aliens. I can’t stress enough how this game simply does everything right. Nothing is to difficult to figure out. You don’t get stuck forever hating some boss, and you never seem to curse at the controls. If the game has any drawback at all, it is simply that it is too short. I strongly encourage you to hunt this game down and play it — it deserves your attention.

Nintendo has a long history of creating quality games with memorable characters that are loved by gamers worldwide. Although millions of players have spent countless hours in the company of the personalities of Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, and Kirby, there are a few games that just either didn’t get the recognition they deserved or didn’t catch on with the gaming public.

Following we will outline a few of these titles. While many of these games were critically acclaimed, they just failed for one reason or another to attract the attention they merited. If you’re looking for a way to pass some time, track down a few of these games on eBay or your favorite used game store… you won’t regret it!

Chibi-Robo! (for GameCube/DS)
Chibi-Robo! can be classified as the GameCube’s last classic game, as it was released quite late in the life of that console. Although it involved the fairly strange idea of earning Happy Points while controlling a robot that cleans various rooms in a house, the game offered a certain charm, and a relaxing experience. If you missed it on the GameCube never fear; it’s also been released on the DS with several updates to the gameplay.

Okami (PS2/Wii)
Okami is perhaps one of the biggest video game injustices to date. Originally released for the PS2 (where sales were disappointing, to say the least), Okami got a second chance on the Wii, where the game’s paintbrush controls are ideally suited to the wiimote. Frankly, the game is better than ever on the Wii, and in my opinion it is one of the freshest games in recent history.

Chrono Trigger (SNES/Playstation/DS)
Many of you are probably too young to remember this game’s incarnation on the Super NES. Widely thought of as the best 2D RPG ever, Chrono Trigger simply must be played if you enjoy this genre of game. It has an outstanding storyline, a fantastic battle system and an amazing soundtrack.

Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem (GameCube)
Eternal Darkness was a riveting psychological horro game from Ubisoft. Although many other games are more frightening and have better effects, no other game manages to recreate the unsettling experience of Eternal Darkness. I found the entire game to be extremely enjoyable, from the sanity meter to the hallucinogenic graphic effects to the game controller pretending to be disconnected. Perhaps if we are lucky, there is a sequel in the works?

Come back for our next post, where we will outline a few more unsung heros of the video game world!

Nintendo was one of the pioneers in modern video game technology. They have long been the industry leader in video games for all platforms: game consoles, hand-held/portable, arcade, and computers.

Nintendo first appeared on the market with the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and Super Mario Bros. The popularity of the NES and Super Mario contributed a great deal to the ultimate success of the company. Through this duo, Nintendo earned the trust of consumers and proved that they are a company that produces quality game systems and quality games.

After the NES, Nintendo released the Super NES or Super Nintendo, which was also a enormous success. During this time, Nintendo also entered the portable gaming industry when they developed their first ever handheld game system called the GameBoy. The GameBoy was such a huge success that Nintendo continued to develop different gaming consoles both for standard and portable gaming.

In 1996, Nintendo released the Nintendo 64 or N64 which was, of course, also a hit. New 3D technology was one of the key features that made this system such a success. With stunning graphics for its time, the Nintendo 64 was the leader of its generation of gaming consoles.

In 2001, another handheld gaming system, named GameBoy Advance (GBA), was released by Nintendo. The GBA took the world by storm and proved itself to be another success for Nintendo. In comparison to its predecessor, the GameBoy Advance is far more sophisticated in terms of graphics technology and also in game play.

During that same year, Nintendo released its latest incarnation of the gaming console: the GameCube. By this time, Sony and Microsoft had entered the game system market, and offered much competition for Nintendo. So, although the GameCube wasn’t as much of a hit as its predecessors, it found its niche as a good game system option for their kids.

Over the course of time, Nintendo’s competitors developed more advanced handheld game systems, and Nintendo responded with the DS. This portable game system has become one of the most popular handheld systems on the market today. With features like touch screen technology and integrated Wi-Fi capabilities, Nintendo DS is considered to be the new generation in portable gaming technology.

After many years and a lot of competition from the other video game companies, Nintendo finally released it’s latest incarnation of the home video game console. The Nintendo Wii was a huge success right out of the gate. With months of high demand and short supply, along with its innovative games and game controller technique, it’s sure to go down in history as one of the best-selling systems of all time.
